This year’s best British films so far

Just like Hollywood flicks, British movies are packed with the great star cast, marvelous visuals, and other elements that could engage the viewers. It is true that some mega franchises are dominating 2016. But a few British films would certainly break the records. Here is a list of this year’s best movies.

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie was released in July 2016. Mandie Fletcherhas directed this British comedy. Jennifer Saunders has written the screenplay. It is based on a TV show titled Absolutely Fabulous. This flick features Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Julia Sawalha, June Whitfield, and Jane Horrocks. According to the filmmaker, principal photography had begun in October 2015, and most of its scenes have been shot in France.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has distributed this film worldwide. It is about Edina and Patsy who have grown old. Edina still runs her PR agency, but the business is not going well. She is afraid of her reputation, and decides to take some bold steps. It is interesting to know that over 80 drag queens made an appearance in this film. The prominent ones are Daniel Lismore, The Infamous BoomBoom, La Voix, and Chrissy Darling. It has earned over $30 million worldwide, including $20 million in the UK, and over $4 million in the US.

Brotherhood

If you have nothing to do this weekend, you should watch Brotherhood. This British film has done magnificent business. The director is Noel Clarke. The movie was screened in the Special Presentations section at 2016’s Toronto International Film Festival. Here Noel Clarke, Ashley Thomas, Olivia Chenery, Nick Nevern, Steven Cree, have played the lead characters. You can also see David Ajala, Arnold Oceng, Tonia Sotiropoulou, and Jason Maza playing the supporting roles in this flick.

American Honey

American Honey is an excellent British-American film of this year. The writer and director is Andrea Arnold, and Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf, and Riley Keough are in the lead roles. Amazingly, this movie was selected to compete for the Palme d'Orat 2016’s Cannes Film Festival. Universal Pictures has distributed it worldwide.

American Honey is about a teenage girl who pursues her career as a traveling magazine’s crew. Arnold told in a press conference that he was very impressed with the lifestyle of Americans. In researching for this movie, he traveled from California to other parts of the US. This movie received satisfactory reviews from the critics.
